During
your pre-op visit be frank in discussing your expectations with
your surgeon. He or she should be equally frank with you, describing
the procedure in detail and explaining its risks and limitations.
You
may feel overwhelmed, but don't worry. Most people considering
Liposuction often feel the same way. Your doctor will
consider effectiveness, safety, cost and appropriateness when
deciding which is the right treatment for you. This is called
"surgical judgment", a skill that is developed
through surgical training and experience. Your doctor will use
this judgement to prevent complications, to handle unexpected
occurrences during surgery, and to treat complications if they
occur. The pre-operative visit is also important in that
it provides the patient with a chance to gather background information
about the surgeon. Their education and training has helped them
form their "surgical judgement," so take the time
to do some background checking. Patients are bly encouraged
to consider a doctor certified by the American Board of Plastic
Surgery ("ABPS").
