FACTS
Other interesting
ASPS study findings regarding lipoplasty performed in 1997:
About half
of the patients were between the ages of 35 and 50 and approximately
one-third were between the ages of 19 and 34.
Eighty-six
percent of all patients were female and 14 percent were male.
Nearly 95
percent of lipoplasty procedures were performed in an outpatient
surgical setting.
About one-third
of all lipoplasty procedures were performed in California, New
York, Florida and Texas.
ASPS represents
97 percent of all physicians certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). By choosing an ASPS member, a patient
can be assured that the surgeon has graduated from an accredited
medical school and completed at least five years of additional
residency training, usually three years of general surgery and
two years of plastic surgery. Additionally, a physician must
also practice plastic surgery for two years and pass comprehensive
written and oral examinations to be certified by ABPS.
